Castle in the Sky

Renamed from its original Japanese name of Laputa (to be an offensive phrase, which director Hayao Miyazaki was unaware at the time), Castle in the Sky is the third movie, the leader of the master, and is one of its most beloved of all times. Initially a disappointment at the box office in its 1986 version, has since been embraced by critics and audiences worldwide. Inspired by Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels," Castle in the Sky is a subject steampunk action adventure storyabout two young orphans – young miner Pazu and mysterious girl Sheet (he wears a magic crystal around her neck) – team up to find the time lost island of Laputa, who is said to have great wealth and gems. They are helped by a gang of air pirates led by the bumbling yet sympathetic Feisty Dola (who at first hunt, but prove to be true allies) and of the government led by his highest-infamous secret agent Muska, who wants the power of Laputa for theirbenefit.br / br / For those looking for an exciting way to spend two hours, this film is an excellent choice, with the right amount of humor, exploration, wonder and mystery to keep one interested. The work of art, though not spectacular as in some of Miyazaki's latest film, is fantastic and beautiful enough to watch with fictional characters and places, incredibly exciting action scenes and breathtaking flight sequences you feel dizzy. And while the charactersthat populate this tale are less complex than other works of Miyazaki, each has a memorable, engaging personality that stays with the viewer long after the film is finished. Dola, in particular, makes for a great comic character, shouting orders to his idiot son a moment and be protective of the large sheet neighbor. Muska is one of the few creations Miyazaki ever come across as an irredeemably evil, but as Dola he commands every scene she is left with a charisma that is bothseductive chilly.br / br / Anime fans have often compared this science fiction Gainax-fi adventure series The Secret of Blue Water. After all, both works and shares similar story elements of character … not to mention both of which were created by Miyazaki himself. In cases where the difference lies in their execution. NADIA, though fascinating for the most part, immediately taking a wrong turn in its halfway point, and donate in cartoon absurdity that all but absent from the main plot, evenalthough he had a strong finish. Castle in the Sky, on the other hand, is always fun and focused on his two hours of battery life, and is much better. While the epic tone of the film is sometimes interrupted by a few cartoon moments, like a brawl between bosses Pazu and a son of Dola, it is never to the point that it detracts from the film.br / br / About eleven years ago, Disney released a version in English with a cast of big names like James Van Der Beek,Anna Paquin, Cloris Leachman, Mark Hamill, Mandy Patinkin, and some cameo appearances by veterans like Jim Cummings and Tress MacNeille. It also has ambitious reworking of Joe Hisaishi's beautiful score for a performance by the Seattle Music Orchestra (Interestingly, the man behind this rescore is nothing but the composer himself). As purists have cried blasphemy in this version for its occasional extra dialogue and rescore the above, Miyazakihad no such problems, in fact, is said to have applauded the re-engineering, and for good reason, because the music just sounded really is the star of the new dub. While there are some cases where the fill critially silence in some scenes from the original Japanese is a bit 'harsh (especially the trip through a storm cloud dragon-infested), the complete reassessment is fantastic and in many ways improves the original , particularly in scenes such as when a robot attacking a fortress andclimactic moments toward the end. Here Hisaishi shows his musical versatility and genius for matching music visuals.br / br / With regard to performance in dub go, the door is probably the end of the short stick; Pazu James Van Der Beek sounds much more mature of his character, while Anna Paquin Sheeta speaks with a funny accent that fluctuates at times (a problem that actually works for the character). That said, both do a good job generally and provide aquite credible whole chemistry. And 'the lively supporting cast, however, that really makes this dub so much fun, especially Cloris Leachman Dola and Muska Mark Hamill's. Both are perfectly cast and steal every scene they are in, as with the rescore, these two realities warrant a listen to the Disney dub. The boundaries of adaptation side script loose at times – there's a bit 'of extra lines and / or comments (some of which are pricelessly funny and others a bit' too much) – butSince at least one alteration questionable intervention (Sheet in the climactic showdown, "the world can not live without love," in contrast with the original "you can not survive whatever Mother Earth"), the general characteristics, history, and spirit remains fairly faithful to the original. Overall, it makes little sense to compare the Disney version for the original language track, and each put their stamp on this legendary masterpiece, and I like both. (They are even better than Streamline / JAL 'smore literal, but terribly robotic, lifeless, abysmally acted and poorly written old dub of the end of 1980.) br / br / In 2003, Disney brought the movie to DVD (after a long delay from its original 1999 release date) with dub as well as the Japanese language track, with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and a surprisingly low amount of extras. However, this new upcoming release promises to correct this defect latter providing an additional extra, although it remains to be seen whether theliteral subtitles will be better synchronized to purists.br / br / In both cases, you can not go wrong with the castle in the sky. And 'one of the largest in Miyazaki, and recommend it.

Inspired by “Gulliver’s Travels,” the fantasy-adventure ICastle in the Sky/I (1986) was Hayao Miyazaki’s third feature, and helped to establish his reputation as a visionary in both Japan and America. The orphan Sheeta inherited a mysterious crystal that links her to the legendary sky-kingdom of Laputa. With the help of resourceful Pazu and a rollicking band of sky pirates, she makes her way to the ruins of the once-great civilization. Sheeta and Pazu must outwit the evil Muska, who plans to use Laputa’s science to make himself ruler of the world. ICastle/I echoes elements in Myazaki’s earlier INausicaä/I, and anticipates imagery in his later films, from IMy Neighbor Totoro/I to ISpirited Away/I. Disney’s new English dub, which features Anna Paquin (Sheeta), James Van Der Beek (Pazu), and Cloris Leachman (pirate matriarch Dola), is lively and close in tone to the original Japanese, if a bit talkier. The exciting flying sequences, appealing characters, and fantastic vision of a steam-powered future Jules Verne might have imagined make ICastle in the Sky/I a must-have for fans of Japanese and Western animation. (Unrated: suitable for ages 10 and older: violence) I–Charles Solomon/I

Castle in the sky is for all ages – Linda E. Ross – NY , USA
I first bought this film for myself and then for my nephew when he told me several times, as has been his favorite movie in the world. This is a wonderful story of a boy who helps a young girl overcoming Villians who want to steal the necklace and its power to themselves. They merge and, finally, the sacrifice of power in the series to save the world. This film would be loved by anyone who loved "Howl's Moving Castle". Great Japanese animation is wonderful andsignificant fun.
