Over-the-top reviews are hard to believe, but understand this – Why would anyone take the time to do this unless you love or hate something? I LOVE this CD. It 'broke into my life a few months ago and has not left. The best cut is "Me Voy Pa'l Pueblo", which is a tour de force that optimistic, both infectious and musically. But this is only my first favorite. There are my other favorites: Siboney, Calle Dieceseis, El Pescador, Compay Gato, Campesino. Incredible amount of great songs anddeliveries on a CD. It 'hard to believe that this CD was recorded in a week, but it goes with the miracle that is – that this kind of meeting of talent and emotion not often anyway, so why should not happen in a week!

“Canto Discount” Overview
Formed in 1998 as a loose collective of (mostly) Texas musicians with a love for traditional Mexican melodies, Los Super Seven took exactly one week to produce a self-titled debut that was an offhand marvel of norteño tradition and intimacy. Three years later, four of the original members–including David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos–return for ICanto/I, but their musical ambitions have broadened from Tex-Mex house party to pan-Latin musical summit. Boasting guest appearances by Brazilian Itropicalismo/I heavyweight Caetano Veloso, Los Angeles-based Cuban pianist Albert Salas, and Peruvian diva Susana Baca, ICanto/I features some of the old-world romantic charm of Buena Vista Social Club (listen, in particular, to Raul Malo croon the album-opening “Siboney”), but the CD doesn’t shy away from the subtler, breathier charms of Veloso or Baca’s sophisticated Afro-Latin pop on “Drumi Drumi Mobila.” ICanto/I reaches its pinnacle on “Teresa,” a Hildalgo-sung gem that mixes the rock experimentalism of Los Lobos with the percussive piano attack of Salas and a complex undertow of polyrhythms. At times like these, ICanto/I sounds both like a logical extension of Ry Cooder’s multimedia global juggernaut, and a not-so-subtle reminder that new musical traditions are often carved out by ignoring geographic boundaries. Music to drink margaritas by… – Stephen Cabral – New England
This is like a Mexican / Texan supergroup with various musicians, mixing on various songs. Some of the musicians who come and go, Raul Malo, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Steve Berlin, Rick Trevino and many more talents. Every song is sung in Spanish or Portuguese, which often makes it difficult for me, but to appreciate this CD is so great, I had no problem overcoming the foreign words. This is music to drink margaritas by!
A fine mix – T. Jackson – north carolina
This album takes off in a different direction for this interesting group. I stumbled upon it on Real Rhapsody and was hooked immediately. A fine mix of old standards that every fan of Latin music will recognize, but all done in distinctive, ear-catching ways. New tunes as well, and fun, but also the right mix of Brazilian Portuguese Veloso in otherwise Spanish. Rather the simple mode, but all executed with a clear passionate love for music. Well even recording. I'ma bigLatin music fan, listened to all the variety of brilliant music of the Latin world, and this album is right there with the best.
