it could have been so much better – The Delite Rancher – Phoenix, Arizona
After reading Lafcadio Hearn, I developed an interest in Kwaidan. For the uninitiated, refers to Kwaidan old Japanese horror stories, often associated with ghosts and the occult. Also have a love of anime series Samurai Horror peaked my interest as a conjunction of these two elements of Japanese culture. While "Goddess of Dark Tower" is less, had so much going for it. The overall plot is good and the Edo period is always great for storytelling. Echoing "Samurai Champloo", evenThe opening theme is fantastic. So what went wrong? First, the dialogue is flat. Secondly, the animation is mediocre. There are times when the artistic quality can be compared to what Hanna-Barbera was making in 1970. Overall, this series lacks the poetry and beauty which is illustrated best in anime productions. Given these two factors, the number of Samurai Horror can be better appreciated by younger viewers. After seeing this initial volume, I do not intend to watchother two DVDs. Samurai Horror has its moments, but ultimately uncompelling.
Good…but only good – Dane G. Mcloughlin – Australia
After returning from a recent trip to Japan, one of the souls of the DVD on the shelf that really stood out for me was 'Ayakashi'. I'm a fan of old skool Japanese ghost stories and was happy to discover this had come out on DVD with English subtitles (as most are aware, it is almost impossible to find a DVD with subtitles in Japanese). I do not know if it was only the large tin of the Japanese version that has captured my attention, but everything was That I knew I wanted in my collection. Although I did enjoy thestory line I was very disappointed with the quality of that animation. The only word to descrip is cheap. I can imagine that if it had higher production values that have the Potential to be one of my favorite anime … but I believe that Said could be a lot of series. I like the idea of having only one line short story for the disc. This whole story is told in four episodes, which is what I'm led to believe is the format for this series, each disc is a different story. I wouldI recommend this to someone who is more of a fan of ghost stories of samurai anime itself. As for me will still buy the rest of this collection, but at least my expectations will not be so high, so I probably enjoy the next one yet.
